Responsibility

Emory University has a responsibility to all communities within the larger Emory community, as well as a civic duty to Atlanta. This duty reflects College Council's commitment to social justice, equity, and positive social change, and can help to foster a sense of unity and common purpose among all students. Read more about my action plans to establish a greater sense of accountability and responsibility across campus.

  • Execute a two-fold plan to improve and strengthen the existing Oxford continuee experience on the Atlanta campus. First, by establishing a mentor system between Oxford grads and new Oxford continuees, this will better help gain acquaintance to the campus and student life. Second, by collaborating with BBA Council and ESNA to put on an Oxford Gala for all Oxford grads, regardless of school, this will fortify the relationships built at the Oxford campus but which carries through to here as well.

  • Integrate transfer students into the community by working with Orientation Leaders and Campus Ambassadors to establish an improved system of orientation by not treating transfers like outcasts. Since the transfer student experience can feel very isolating, by pairing a transfer with a student can create the feeling of having support and an ingrained friend to show you around from the start can mitigate any social qualms.

  • Furthermore, it is disheartening to learn that transfer students do not have the opportunity to speak with advisors to learn about their path if they choose to come to Emory until they pay their deposit in such a big decision continuing their education. By partnering with Emory Transfer Student Organization (ETSO) and working with the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) to devise a solution, we can also work on programming to improve the social transition into the Emory community.

  • Improve and expand our experience shuttles by not just visiting sites that Atlanta has to offer, but also give back to the community. In collaboration with the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) and organizations such as Volunteer Emory, Project Downtown Atlanta, Meals on Wheels and the 409 Juvenile Mentorship Program, we can take students into the greater Atlanta community for service projects encouraging civic duty in our students.

  • Enable College Council members to take initiative and lead projects of their liking. By conducting individual check-ins with legislators to ensure best usage of their time and resources and facilitating inter office collaboration for our executive branch, we can maximize our impact for the upcoming year.

  • Display gratitude and appreciation for our different advisors, faculty and staff, and offices/departments. While it is important to be critical of admin and keep pushing them to take action on student concerns, it is also important to give thanks and show appreciation by partnering with SGA, RHA and other divisional councils moving forward.

Saanya Kapasi, 24C

She prioritizes student concerns and works with the administration effectively to bring actual change. She approaches all problems pragmatically by developing actionable solutions and keeping other legislators accountable to see the fruition of those solutions. With Neha, you get no lip-service, you will have a president who works tirelessly to produce tangible results. Vote for Neha!

Joanne Lee, 24N

“I’d really like to emphasize how genuinely caring and compassionate Neha was when I was working with Programming. She's built such an amazing community within CC by hosting 1:1 meetings and directly working alongside my team when she didn’t have to over the summer when we were preparing for CultureSHOCK. I was extremely appreciative of how communicative she was and she helped make College Council feel like a family ❤️”
