Community

Creating sentiments of belonging and community on campus is important because it can lead to improved mental health, increased academic success, enhanced social support, and a greater sense of purpose and belonging. • Promote and provide top priority to emergency response planning and the accessibility and availability of mental health resources on campus. Begin by working with the university counseling center (CAPS) to enhance its website and make it simpler for students to locate information, make appointments, and access resources whenever they need to through online forms. Second, spread knowledge of the TimelyCare program among students through College Council and other channels to deal with situations involving mental health. In order to raise awareness and make mental health resources a standard component of the student experience, push for these improved mental health support systems to be prominently mentioned in student orientation and other campus communications.

  • Expand student presence and brighten up the ESC common spaces to host large scale campus events. Given the success of the Football World Cup and SuperBowl Sunday, in the future we can collaborate with other organizations such as the Emory Cricket Club to host other sporting tournaments. This is important to changing how we as students view our ESC, converting it into the go-to hangout spot that it should be.

  • Facilitate interfaith discussion and celebration of religions by working with the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life to establish a safe space for students to connect with each other regardless of faith. By connecting orgs like TableTalk with the student leaders of religious organizations on campus and their representatives serving on the Interreligious Council we can foster a respectful environment for students to express their beliefs and learn from others. Future events can be designed and hosted in Emory’s new Interfaith Center on Campus which will be open in the Fall.

  • Create and increase access to practice spaces for individuals interested in the performing arts. We can resolve this by working with Reslife, to convert one study room per building into a practice room. This will be vital to students seeking sound proof spaces to practice since dorm rooms can be inhibiting to our artistic enrichment.

  • Design a permanent solution in conjunction with the Emory Musician's Network and Emory’s Music Department. Since performance organizations, such as a cappella teams, often use classrooms like White Hall that are not suited to their acoustic needs, this would solve their issues.

  • Promote home games and events of our student athletes by working with Emory Rec and Wellness and Club Sports. Pushing for our students to gather as a community and cheer on their peers as they compete is integral to promoting school spirit. Using College Council’s resources and reach would be key in rallying support from our students.

“Neha is an incredible hard worker dedicated to creating a community at Emory that everybody can feel apart of. She makes sure that everybody has a voice and is extremely motivated to allow Oxford graduates to integrate into the Atlanta community. Her dedication and perseverance are qualities she has used to directly influence the Emory community in a very positive way and I am very excited to see the changes she will make as cc pres.”

“I have known Neha since both our first years at Emory and she is absolutely the kindest person. She has encouraged me and motivated me throughout my years at Emory. Neha really strives to understand what I’m going through and naturally provides the best advice/solutions. It’s her positive energy that she brings to the Emory community that makes her such a great leader.”
